Barramundi (Lates calcarifer)
Description
Barramundi is an Aboriginal word meaning "large scales". Belonging to the giant perch family, Barramundi are greenish-bronze along the back and silver along the sides They are large predators, growing up to 60kg however they are usually caught at around 5-6kg.
Habitat
Barramundi are warm water fish, being found in tropical coastal and freshwaters in northern Australia. They venture downstream into estuaries and coastal waters during their breeding season.
