Red Emperor (Lutjanus sebae)

Description

The Red Emperor has a pink, red or white body with three broad red lines across the body. The red lines are very distinct in young fish but fade with age. The Red Emperor can exceed 100cm and 22kg but is commonly caught at around 10kg or less.

Habitat

The Red Emperor is a marine species and often in the vicinity of coral reefs. They inhabit tropical and sub-tropical waters of Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.

Remarks

A very popular food fish due to the firm and flaky flesh, which has a delicate flavour.
