Moreton Bay Bug (Thenus species)

Description

Moreton Bay Bugs are reddish-brown in colour with a brown tail. They are distinguished from Balmain Bugs by the position of the eyes, which are located at the outer edge of the hard external shell that covers the upper body.

Habitat

The Moreton Bay Bug is found throughout the coastal waters of Queensland, northern coast of Australia and northern New South Wales. They live on muddy or sandy bottoms, in depths up to 60m, and usually are buried during the day and active at night.

Remarks
