Southern Rocklobster (Jasus edwardsii)
Description
The Southern Rocklobster has a reddish or orange body with sculptured abdominal segments, distinguishing it from the Eastern Rocklobster which has smooth abdominal segments and a green body. Large male Southern Rocklobsters can weigh in excess of 6kg.
Habitat
Southern Rocklobsters live in a variety of reef habitats off southern Australia from New South Wales, around Tasmanian and across to Western Australia.
Remarks
Very popular lobster with tasty, white, firm flesh. The flesh from the legs tends to be sweeter than the tail flesh.
